Canadians who had accounts with Yahoo or Rogers between 2012 and 2016 may qualify for cash compensation due to a $20 million class action settlement regarding data breaches. Here’s everything you need to know to make sure you don’t miss out.
Who is Eligible?
Any Canadian who had a Rogers or Yahoo account from January 1, 2012, to December 31, 2016, could be eligible. This includes accounts powered by Yahoo services, such as Rogers emails.
What Can You Receive?
Eligible Canadians have three compensation options:
- Category A Claims – Reimbursement for breach-related expenses:
- Compensation of up to $25 per hour for up to five hours per breach (up to 15 hours total if impacted by all three breaches).
- Refunds for Yahoo premium services paid between August 1, 2013, and December 31, 2016.
- Category B Claims – Wasted time and inconvenience compensation:
- Claim up to $125 per data breach, totaling up to $375 if impacted by all three incidents.
- Category C Claims – Two years of credit monitoring services instead of cash compensation (valued at $478.80).
How to Submit a Claim
To claim your share, submit the claim form by December 27, 2024. Missing the deadline will forfeit your right to compensation.
When and How are Benefits Paid?
Once claims close on December 27 and are reviewed, approved cash payments will be sent via e-transfer or direct deposit. For those choosing credit monitoring, instructions will be provided after approval.
